The Desert reclaiming the old Ghost Town of Kolmanskop after all the Diamonds have been harvested, and the people disappeared (Ludertiz, Namibia).

Fast, Faster, Cheetah on Flickr (by Martin Heigan).

The fastest animal on Earth running.
Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) facts:
Top Speed: 120 km/h (75 mph).
Acceleration: 0 to 103 km/h (64 mph) in 3 seconds (faster than most Super Cars).

All you can eat buffet on Flickr (by Martin Heigan).

Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) feasting on a Springbok in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (close to Mata Mata, Kalahari, Northern Cape, South Africa).

The Aliens have landed on Flickr (by Martin Heigan).

Very far from civilization, unexplained rock formations lie scattered over the hills close to the Tiras Mountains in Namibia. Nothing grows on these patches of rock, not even the abundant “Short Bushman Grass”. And no, this is not man made..!

Another one of my photos made it to National Geographic..!

Petrified Camel Thorn Trees (Acacia erioloba) in the salt pan at Dead Vlei (Sossusvlei, Namib Naukluft Park, Namibia). Photo by Martin Heigan.

Blow flies on Stapelia grandiflora flower on Flickr (by Martin Heigan).

Blow flies pollinating a Stapelia grandiflora flower (from Calitzdorp Dam, South Africa). The flies are being tricked by the flower, and their maggot eggs won’t survive as the flower will die soon (and the flower is not really a suitable host or food for the maggots).

Aromatherapy on Flickr (by Martin Heigan).

Sheep relaxing in fields of Wild Namaqua Daisies at the end of the day (Kamieskroon, Namaqualand, Northern Cape, South Africa).

Huernia praestans flower on Flickr (by Martin Heigan).

An extreme macro photograph of a small Huernia praestans flower from South Africa.
